Jean Benson                                          “The real voyage of discovery consists of not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” Marcel Proust.

Painting is for me a voyage of discovery, a form of meditation that involves my head, heart and hands totally. The natural world inspires a lot of my work though rarely do I rely on entirely representational depictions. I prefer to allow viewers to become involved using their own imaginations.

Having had no formal art education, workshops, art buddies, viewing paintings, also critiques of my work all help me to discover the direction I should travel on my journey with my paintbrush. I’m not always satisfied with where the journey takes me but always I enjoy the process.

Sometimes I find myself painting memories of holidays past or I try to capture my feelings as I view the world around me, or I decide a humourous approach pleases me best. Whatever......I paint for my own enjoyment and if others find something appealing in my work then that absolutely makes my day!
